Project Brief
The University of West London required a high-quality temporary lecture theatre to support academic activity over a 39-week period. The brief called for a fast, non-invasive solution that could be installed within an active campus environment, while minimising disruption to students, staff, and the surrounding residential community.
Located within an existing university car park, the building needed to be fully accessible, acoustically suitable for teaching, and capable of being removed at the end of the hire period without leaving any permanent impact on the site. The project, carried out in collaboration with construction consultancy Fusion PM, involved the rapid installation of a modular building within the university car park, using temporary foundations that preserved the existing site.
Elite Systems GB was appointed to deliver a modular lecture theatre that met these requirements, combining speed of installation with comfort, performance, and flexibility.

The Main Features
Outside
Externally, the building features a durable plastic-coated steel finish, selected for its low-maintenance qualities and suitability for temporary campus installations. The modular structure is installed on temporary foundations, avoiding any permanent alteration to the existing university car park and allowing the site to be fully reinstated at the end of the hire period.
Modular access ramps provide safe and inclusive entry for all users, including those with mobility challenges. The building’s modular design enabled rapid installation with minimal disruption to university operations and the surrounding residential area, making it an ideal solution for a live campus environment.
Inside
The temporary lecture theatre provides a purpose-built internal environment designed to support modern teaching and learning. The space benefits from enhanced acoustic insulation to walls and ceilings, creating a quiet and focused setting suitable for lectures and presentations. Integrated heating ensures year-round comfort, while high-efficiency LED lighting with dimming controls allows lighting levels to be adjusted to suit different teaching styles and AV requirements.
The building is fully equipped with data points to support IT and audiovisual systems, enabling immediate use upon installation. Careful consideration was also given to glare management, with adjustable blinds installed to control natural light and improve visibility for large screens and presentations.
The Results
The temporary lecture theatre provided the University of West London with a high-quality, fully functional teaching space that supported uninterrupted academic delivery throughout the 39-week hire period. The building was installed and made weatherproof within one week, meeting a tight programme while ensuring minimal disruption to students, staff, and day-to-day university operations.
Careful planning and the use of modular construction allowed the project team to work efficiently within an active campus and nearby residential area. Temporary foundations ensured that the existing car park surface was preserved, enabling the building to be removed at the end of the hire period without leaving any permanent impact on the site.
The completed facility delivered an inclusive, comfortable learning environment equipped with integrated heating, LED lighting, data connectivity, and enhanced acoustic treatments. Fully accessible from day one and ready for immediate use, the modular lecture theatre provided a flexible, future-ready solution that met the university’s short-term needs while maintaining the integrity of the campus environment.
