Royal Bolton Hospital
Project Brief
The ever-evolving landscape of healthcare demands continual adaptation, and Royal Bolton Hospital recognised the pressing need for a solution to changing clinical environments. Like many NHS facilities, the hospital faced the challenge of managing congestion in its busy A&E department. To address this ongoing issue, they identified the need for a new same day emergency care (SDEC) centre. This proactive approach aligns with the NHS’s broader strategy to improve patient flow and enhance the quality of care.

Our Approach
The new SDEC unit was designed to help staff at Royal Bolton Hospital prioritise patients and reduce waiting times by creating space for initial assessments.
Like many NHS trusts, this busy hospital needed a way to reduce waiting times and allow it to process and treat patients more quickly. Part of an overall upgrade to the hospital’s ageing estate, this brand-new modular building is designed to occupy the exact footprint previously occupied by ambulatory care, so it makes the best possible use of the existing space.
The modular healthcare building houses a new trolley-based assessment centre where patients can be seen by clinical staff who will arrange initial treatment once their needs are understood. After this, patients are either discharged or admitted to hospital for further care.
The Results
Elite Systems’ experience in understanding the challenges and need for speed involved in a healthcare project meant that the company was able to ensure that the new building was in place and fully fitted out in a matter of weeks. Patients and staff alike are benefitting from the more efficient processes made possible by the creation of this modern, modular building.
