Dene Barton Community Centre Hydrotherapy Pool
Project Brief
The NHS hydrotherapy unit based at Dene Barton Community Hospital in Somerset replaces the decommissioned pool, creating the opportunity to expand available physiotherapy services.
The modular building features a temperature-controlled pool, specialist equipment, changing rooms, and an attractive exterior. Commenting on the use of the unit, Sharron Kingston, the hydrotherapy assistant added:
“The feedback we’ve had from patients has been amazing so far – they love it! We even struggle getting them back out of the water. The building is used to help a wide range of people, from as young as one year old to the elderly and those with learning difficulties too”
Our managing director Marcus Sutcliffe added:
“Our capability in the healthcare sector keeps getting stronger and stronger, and this latest project is another impressive string to our bow. Creating a modular building with a built-in pool was a new challenge for us, and we are very proud of the final result.”

Our Approach
After being contacted by Somerset NHS Foundation Trust to deliver this unique specification, Elite Systems became involved in designing, manufacturing, and installing the bespoke modular building for the NHS hydrotherapy unit.
The 10.2 x 9.8m unit was built with patient needs in mind, featuring a temperature-controlled pool, specialist equipment, a hoist, extra storage, changing rooms, and an administrative station.
The Larch wood cladding provided a welcoming aesthetic that blended with the surroundings.
The Results
The unit has received positive feedback from patients and staff. Patients appreciate the warm water therapy and the welcoming environment. Having nearby physiotherapy services is seen as an added benefit.
Plus, the new location is getting great feedback. Helen Williams, the physiotherapy outpatients team leader said:
“It’s an added bonus that we now have the hydro pool at Dene Barton Hospital too as both departments naturally work well together given the majority of the people we see are physiotherapy outpatients”.
Here at Elite Systems were are proud that this work undertaken for the Somerset NHS Foundation Trust demonstrates our growing capability in the healthcare sector.
