Dedham CofE Voluntary Controlled Primary School
Project Brief
Schools are places that are ever-evolving with both refurbishments and new-builds. Older school classrooms sometimes don’t provide an adequate experience for students but modern modular classrooms get education ready for the future. Essex County Council is a long-standing client, and the local authority approached us to create a brand-new 110 sqm single storey modular classroom building for Dedham CofE Voluntary Controlled Primary School.

Client
Essex County Council
Sector
Education
Location
Colchester, Essex
Our Approach
An existing classroom had to be demolished at Dedham CofE and we not only created the new classroom, we undertook the planning application and worked on the demolition of the old building too.
Like every classroom, the environment for learning is as important as the topics being taught. Teachers want their students to be as engaged as possible and students want to learn in a vibrant and exciting place. This classroom was designed with that in mind, and by fitting the exterior in an eye-catching green cladding alongside timber cladding panels we matched the countryside aesthetic surrounding the school.
We installed solar PV panels on the roof of the building to enable the school to generate its own electricity for the classroom, helping Dedham CofE become a more sustainable school, alongside installing a rainwater soakaway and a foul drain pumping system to ensure all rain water is removed both efficiently and economically. The modular classroom was also fitted with toilets and accessible WCs for students.
The Results
We pride ourselves on delivering time after time for our clients, especially in the education sector. At Elite Systems’ we understand the wants and needs of students, teachers and whoever is involved within the school and that’s why we took every precaution and idea on board when it came to creating this classroom.
