Staff Spotlight: Marcus Sutcliffe
MD and cyclist

This month we put the spotlight on our managing director, Marcus Sutcliffe, an avid cyclist who can be seen in almost all weathers cycling to and from the head office.

Born and raised in West Yorkshire, Marcus Sutcliffe (right) is the son of Elite Systems’ founder, Tony. Marcus took on the role of Managing Director in 2017, carrying on the family legacy in both modular building construction and his deep passion for cycling – both on and off the road. Marcus can often be spotted biking to and from work in all kinds of weather, not only reducing his own carbon footprint but also bringing that commitment to sustainability into our construction projects. Over the years, he has actively engaged in various partnerships and initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions, and we remain dedicated to promoting and supporting eco-friendly schemes.

Marcus’ career journey began when he earned his Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Mechanical and Production Engineering. In the 1990s, he embarked on a path in electrical engineering, gaining valuable expertise in wiring, cabling, design drawing creation, material certification, and fostering effective collaboration with colleagues, both past and present. He seamlessly applied his electrical engineering experience and qualifications to the world of modular construction.

With over two decades of dedicated service, Marcus is now a cornerstone of Elite Systems GB. He boasts more than 30 years of combined experience in electrical and mechanical engineering, with a remarkable 20 years spent in the field of modular manufacturing. He has witnessed the industry’s evolution and growth, both within the UK and internationally, positioning modular construction as a compelling alternative to traditional building methods.

Reflecting on his journey, Marcus remarked, “While modular and prefabricated buildings have been viable options since the post-World War II era, witnessing the advancements in design, materials, and safety measures is truly remarkable. It’s incredible to observe the rapid development of this relatively young approach to construction,” he continued, “and I’m constantly looking ahead to explore how we can further enhance modular buildings, making them the top choice for our future.”
