What equipment can be included in your modular cath lab?

We pride ourselves on offering bespoke products for all of our customers, but the main things we will account for in a cath lab will be:

  • Ground-level access for ease of patient transportation
  • Suitable room for an x-ray machine including radiation protection and insulation
  • Appropriate space for a cardiologist and a team of at least 2 others to work
  • Wheelchair and gurney/bed accessibility with space to move easily in the space
  • Room for an ECG machine and for it to be manoeuvrable
  • Medical disposable item storage – such as angioseals, cannulas, balloons, stents, gowns, gloves, paper towels, etc.
  • Medical waste storage
  • Medical chemical storage – such as anaesthetics, skin cleaning solutions, etc
  • Separate entrances for Procedure and Control rooms

What is a modular cath lab or cardiology unit?

A cath lab – also known as a catheter or catheterisation or cardiovascular laboratory – is an examination room typically found on a hospital or a similar healthcare facility. It helps medical professionals view the inner workings of a human heart, arteries, and then to assess and complete treatment.

What’s the difference between a modular cath lab and a traditional building?

The only difference between a modular one and one perhaps you’ll find in a traditional building will be the literal building itself – all other factors such as insulation for energy efficiency and any radiation, room for patient, staff and all medical equipment is exactly the same.

What are modular cath labs used for?

Cath labs are used for a variety of procedures, including:

  • Ablation (also known as electrophysiology, to assess arrhythmia)
  • Angiogram
  • Angiopplasty
  • Implantation of pacemakers / ICDs

If it is the same lab, why choose modular?

A modular cath lab has the main advantage of speed. By hiring or purchasing a modular cath lab, such as those we offer here at Elite Systems, you will find that a modular choice will mean it’s built:

  • Mainly off-site in a factory – limited impact by weather, factory controlled, quickly assembled, minimal impact to the end site until it is time
  • Speedily delivered – without many hampers traditional construction has, the lab will be ready for use within weeks instead of months or even years
  • Fully tested and reliable
  • Will adhere to all UK legislation – just like any other construction project
