Wyken Croft Primary School SEND Modular Classroom with Breakout Room

Written by Kelly Gabe | May 22, 2026 3:05:30 PM

Project Brief

Wyken Croft Primary School required additional SEND teaching space to support pupils requiring specialist learning environments within the school.
As demand for specialist educational provision continues to grow across the UK, many schools are facing increasing pressure to create learning environments that better support pupils with additional needs. For Wyken Croft Primary School, expanding its SEND teaching facilities became an important step in providing pupils with a more inclusive, supportive and effective learning environment.

Elite Systems partnered with the school to deliver a bespoke modular SEND classroom building designed specifically around the practical, sensory and accessibility requirements of modern specialist education spaces.

The project demonstrates how thoughtfully designed modular construction can provide schools with high-quality SEND facilities while minimising disruption within a live educational environment. Combining specialist design features, modern construction methods and carefully coordinated installation works, the completed building provides a calm, practical and future-ready teaching environment tailored to the needs of both pupils and staff.

Following appointment through a competitive tender process, Elite Systems delivered a full turnkey solution including design, manufacture, groundworks and installation of the bespoke modular building.

The completed facility includes:

  • Specialist SEND teaching classroom
  • Dedicated breakout room
  • Accessible WC facilities
  • Acoustic wall and ceiling treatments
  • Large full-length windows for increased natural light
  • DDA-compliant access routes and circulation areas

Our Approach

Delivering the project within a live primary school environment required careful planning throughout both the delivery and installation phases.
Elite Systems worked closely with the school to minimise disruption to daily operations while maintaining safe access routes across the site.

Restricted access to the school grounds required detailed coordination for deliveries, crane operations and module installation works.
Access was maintained through an existing gate onto the school field, while existing trees along the site boundary were retained throughout the project.

Modular sections were delivered by HGV and carefully lifted into position using a 100-tonne crane from the adjacent car park area, requiring a tightly managed installation programme and detailed logistical planning.

Safeguarding and accessibility also formed an important part of the project delivery strategy, with all Elite Systems personnel working on site holding enhanced DBS checks.

Our Building Solution

Elite Systems developed a bespoke modular SEND classroom building designed specifically to support specialist teaching requirements while creating a calm, inclusive and practical learning environment for pupils and staff.

The building combines modern modular construction techniques with carefully considered internal layouts, acoustic treatments and accessibility features to support pupils requiring additional educational and sensory support.

The completed facility provides flexible teaching accommodation while helping the school create a more supportive and effective SEND learning environment.

Key Features

  • Dedicated SEND teaching classroom
  • Breakout room for focused learning and individual support
  • Accessible WC facilities
  • Acoustic wall panelling and ceiling treatments
  • Large full-length windows for increased natural light
  • DDA-compliant pathways and circulation routes
  • Level access throughout the building
  • High-quality, durable internal finishes

Building Design

The building was specifically designed to create a comfortable and supportive environment tailored to SEND learning requirements.

Large full-length windows were incorporated throughout the design to maximise natural light and provide a calmer internal atmosphere within teaching spaces. The dedicated breakout room creates an additional quiet environment for smaller group activities, focused learning sessions and individual support work.

Acoustic wall panelling and ceiling treatments were integrated throughout the building to help reduce noise levels and create a calmer and more manageable teaching environment.

Accessibility and safeguarding considerations were incorporated throughout the final design, including level access routes, accessible WC facilities, high-level door handles and safe external circulation areas.

Modular Construction

The building was manufactured off-site within Elite Systems’ controlled factory environment before being delivered and installed on site.

Off-site modular construction helped reduce on-site programme time, minimise disruption to the school and maintain consistent quality throughout the build process.

Precision-engineered modular construction also allowed the project team to carefully coordinate installation works within the restricted site conditions

Safety and Accessibility

Safety, safeguarding and accessibility formed an important part of both the building design and project delivery process.

Key considerations included:

  • Enhanced DBS checked site personnel
  • Safe segregation between construction and school operations
  • Accessible WC facilities
  • DDA-compliant external access routes
  • Level thresholds throughout the building
  • Safe external circulation areas

The Results

The completed modular SEND classroom building provides Wyken Croft Primary School with a high-quality specialist teaching environment designed around the practical needs of pupils requiring additional support.

By combining modern modular construction with thoughtful design features and carefully coordinated site delivery, Elite Systems successfully delivered a future-ready SEND facility while minimising disruption to the live school environment.

The completed building now provides the school with flexible, inclusive and supportive teaching accommodation that enhances the learning experience for both pupils and staff.
