A relocatable approach – Stanway Primary School
Project Brief
Stanway Primary School found itself at full capacity in most year groups thanks to the town of Colchester’s significant population growth. With four temporary classrooms already on site and funding for a permanent building in place, the school found that it still required a short-term solution to cover the shortfall in classroom space.
Essex County Council commissioned Elite Systems to provide a full turnkey solution centred on the off-site construction of an 18m x 19m double modular classroom for 30 pupils.

Our Approach
Elite designed, manufactured and installed the modular classroom, complete with polycarbonate canopy, along with a toilet, lobby and storage facilities, and completed a 120 sq m soft play areas, securely fenced with black aluminium loop fencing.
Factory manufactured and fitted out to the highest standards, the modular building was finished with Wedgewood Blue Plastisol steel cladding, with contrasting facias in Merlin Grey to co-ordinate with the Victorian school buildings. Elite Systems laid the foundations and undertook groundworks while the building took shape in the factory, ensuring a smooth workflow.
The Results
The off-site manufacture of the modular building meant that time on site was just three weeks, including installation and connecting the building to all mains services. The building’s cladding provides a durable, low-maintenance and vandal-resistant option, meaning that the building can be relocated once the new permanent school building is completed – a cost effective and flexible solution.
